REF: OIA-17449
Dear Ira
Extension of time to respond to request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email of 22 January 2025 requesting the fol owing information under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
•
I would like to have a copy of al audit reports sent by Auror to VTNZ.
•
I would also like to know if VTNZ has confirmed that Auror has been following their
legal authorisation to only use VTNZ data for the fol owing purposes:
o
sending letter to registered owners informing them of debt
o
sending information to debt collection agencies
My understanding of the Auror app is that is al ows for much more than this and the data
is incorporated into a mobile app that retail staff, police and security services can access.
•
Could I please also have any documents, emails, messages, reports or
correspondence regarding the scope and purpose of Auror’s access to VTNZ data?
•
And is there has been any review of their use of this data?
This letter is to advise you that NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is extending the 20
working days available to respond to your request, as allowed for under section 15A of the Act.
We require an additional 10 working days and wil send you a response on or before 6 March
2025.
The deadline is being extended as the consultations necessary to make a decision on your
request are such that a thorough response cannot reasonably be made within the original 20-
working-day limit.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman about the
extension. More information about the Ombudsman is available online at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

If you would like to discuss the extension with NZTA, please email the Ministerial Services team
via email to [NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
Tom James
