Thank you for your email of 19 January 2025, asking Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora for the
following under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Which entity does the decision making sit with on which batch(es) are dispatched to
provider sites when an order pushes through the Inventory Portal? It does not appear
consistently to be first expired first out as has been previously claimed. What is the criteria
used and by which entity and IT system?
Response
Orders are submitted electronically from a Health New Zealand system to the warehouses where
the earliest date is selected by the warehouse stock management system for picking. The criteria
utilized is first expired first out (FEFO).
