Subject: RE: Outcomes from meeting re engagement in Bul er
Hi everyone
Re ming for the consulta on sessions – we had actual y booked venues for Sunday 26 November. I’m not sure if
that was clear? Given it’s a Sunday, I wouldn’t imagine there would be a clash with other BDC work?
I’ve just found out the 4 December is a public holiday here on the Coast, so it’d be a pity to spend two days of a
three day weekend at work and imagining others wil likely feel similarly.
Please confirm if you can a end a Sunday 26 mee ng (our ming was 0830 – 1130 at Ngākawau and 1230 – 1530 at
Carter’s Beach, but understand we’l need longer sessions now with the combined approach)
I’m thinking Punakaiki we should do an evening session during the week- say the 27th from 4pm – 7pm?
Thanks

Thanks Di, that looks good.
Once everyone BDC confirms if the 2nd and 3rd December wil work for the drop in sessions, I’l confirm the venues.
The branding wil need to be TTPP rather than WCRC as it’s a separate en ty and needs to be kept at arm’s length.
I’ve a ached our comms material. We wil have a media release and public no ce ready in the next few days as wel
and I’l send that through when it’s available.
I’ve a ached the powerpoint we looked at as wel - our principal planner put it together for a Commi ee mee ng
some months ago
Regards

sophospsmartba nnere nd
Hi al ,
Thanks for the mee ng and effort put in to unpack and build a solid engagement approach.
Key outcomes/notes:
2
1. WCRC and BDC wil hold 3 x joint drop-in sessions in Bul er (Ngakawau, Carters Beach, Punakaiki) on 2nd / 3rd
December with the purpose of:
TTPP – informing community about updated coastal hazard maps (Hector to Punakaiki – except
Westport), explaining proposed Plan change, explaining process for submi ng, and sharing Plan
meframes
Climate adapta on – introducing the team to the community, informing district of climate
adapta on project, asking communi es what they value and want to retain, listen to them – no risk
or technical informa on shared at this early stage
2. Strong WCRC planning interest in climate adapta on project – broader than TTPP
3. BDC climate adapta on project wil also hold drop-in sessions later that same week in Karamea, Mokihinui,
Ree on, Charleston (but not Westport area) – WCRC wil also be present at these – Fiona Thomson / Di
Rossiter and Tracy Ha on to coordinate
4. Key messages for al projects are needed across al linked projects ahead of drop-in sessions – climate
adapta on, TTPP, master planning, Westport resilience project – Lee Harris progressing
5. Adver sing – need to explain in the adver sing “why not Westport yet?” – same for Karamea / Li le
Wanganui – take a joint up approach to adver sing – Fiona Thomson / Di Rossiter and Tracy Ha on
6. Media – need to ensure consistent and aligned proac ve messaging with media ahead of 2nd Dec – Lee
Harris progressing
7. Iwi / stakeholder communica ons ahead of 2nd Dec – Lee Harris progressing – is this right?
8. Branding on TTPP wil clearly be WCRC, and climate adapta on wil be BDC / UC
Other things we didn’t touch on:
climate adapta on team wil have BDC Council or representa on at the drop-in sessions – Jamie is happy for
the project to contact the Council ors directly
also considering having CDEM-contracted welfare coordinator Steph Newburry there – strong link between
CDEM and adapta on; important that community welfare approach taken for later engagement when
district’s ful risk profile is shared. Wil confirm Steph’s involvement later in month.
What have I missed?
Please ensure al climate adapta on project ma ers are shared with Tracy Ha on during 1st to 17th Nov as I’l be on
A/L. Wil have emails for anything urgent.
Thanks al ! Go forth
Ngā mihi
