A paragraph introducing Jonathan Young
Released
I am a strong community oriented person, with my entire working life contributing to valued
outcomes. I bring a strong work ethic and a creative positivity to what I do, using the various
leadership platforms I've held to establish initiatives that are enablers of other's success in their
life and vocation. I established Taranaki Futures and the Accelerator programme which has been
recognised as springboarding senior secondary students into their tertiary education or their
working careers. This organisation and programme is still in existence a decade after I initiated
them. I initiated this work as the MP for New Plymouth and recruited both the employer and
educator leaders in New Plymouth to participate. Hundreds of secondary students have been
helped. I have more recently established a monthly forum for people in the energy sector in
5
Taranaki, which is aimed at informing people of trends and opportunities in a region where the
transition will be most keenly felt. This forum attracts 50-60 people each month. These are
examples of "enabler" type initiatives I have created, which are about putting other people first,
an important principle in life and service. Though this may not directly correlate to the work of the
Commission, it demonstrates a community focus to my work, which is at the heart of the
Commission's work.
Best regards
Jonathan Young.
