Your request for information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
(LGOIMA)
– CAS-1037202-Z4D7C3
Kia ora Hemant,
I refer to your request for official information dated 23 December 2024, requesting information about the
Licence Plate recognition (LPR) vehicles.
Can you please provide al operating instructions / procedures / coding logic that al ows camera cars to
give an extra hour over the paid for time for mobility permit card holders. (As outlined on this page:
https://at.govt.nz/driving-and-parking/find-parking/mobility-parking 1) a) "On-street paid parking areas
In al on-street paid parking areas, mobility permit holders are given one additional hour of free parking
on top of the time paid. For example, if your paid parking time expires at 2:15pm, you can stay in the
parking space until 3:15pm before an infringement may be issued. Please note: On-street paid parking
areas are where payment can be made by pay by plate machine or AT Park app."
Your request is declined under section 17(e) of the LGOIMA as the information you are requesting does not
exist. The Licence Plate Recognition cameras cannot identify mobility parking permits at this point in time
because mobility parking permits are physical permits that have no presence in Auckland Transport’s digital
environment.
Mobility permits are issued to a person, not a vehicle registration number. It is the vehicle registration
number that is used by Auckland Transport for enforcement of offences, and the permits are administered
by CCS Disability Action. The system that CCS uses does not integrate with any system used by Auckland
Transport.
Currently, enforcement of mobility permit related offences are captured by roaming Parking Officer patrols
or by Parking Officers on foot, called out through a request for service made by a member of public.
I think I read somewhere that AT might be getting some new camera cars next year. If so, what
upgrades/additional features wil these cars have over the existing cars?
Your request for information is declined under section 17(e) of the LGOIMA as the information you are
requesting does not exist. AT does not have any current plans to upgrade the LPR vehicles this year.
Yours sincerely,
John Strawbridge
