National Hīkoi – Running Relay
The intent of the runners is currently looking like this:

o A van who picks up the runner

the cones etc on wil be at the back of the runners

Event Intel igence
Risk is high given the nature of the activity, ever changing intel and the potential for organisers to
change their plans in real time.
RELEASED
There is a core group of 200 people travel ing the length of the North Island, plus associated
vehicles. They wil conduct rallies and activations throughout as per the itinerary above. With 1 or 2
vans working as a relay for runners who plan to run the distance, but this may not be for the whole
journey. Current Police intel is up to 5,000 wil join the Hīkoi over the Auckland Harbour Bridge

Overview
A significant front moves slowly up the South Island today and early Saturday. while a ridge
lingers over the North Island. The front then starts to weaken later Saturday and Sunday as it
becomes slow moving over the southern North Island, then moves over the upper North Island on
Monday.
A third front brushes the lower South Island late Sunday then is fol owed by high pressure early

next week.
North Island
Rain develops in the southwest Saturday night, spreading to the central North Island on Sunday
with heavy fal s possible about the Tararua Range, the central high country and Taranaki.
Afternoon showers for inland parts further north on Saturday, with isolated heavy falls possible for

Northland.
The front brings rain or showers to the upper North Island on Monday with heavy falls about
eastern Bay of Plenty. Settled conditions again on Tuesday and Wednesday.
THE
South Island
Heavy rain begins in Fiordland and Westland today and continues into Saturday. This is a top-end
event for parts of Westland, and an Orange warning is in effect here along with a RED alert for SH6
and for Arthur's Pass.
Spil over rain is also expected for Otago
UNDER Headwaters and Canterbury Headwaters from today, and
heavy rain spreads to northern Westland and Bul er early Saturday, with Orange warnings now in
effect for all of these regions.
There is also potential for heavy rain about southern Fiordland and Southland today where
Watches have been maintained.
Rain easing through Saturday, then returning to southern Fiordland again Sunday evening with a
burst of rain with the front in the far south on Monday.
High pressure should move in after this front, bringing generally dry conditions.
