REF: OIA-17161
Dear James
Extension of time to respond to request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 6 December 2024 requesting information under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act). After your refinement of 17 January 2025, we understand you are seeking the following
information:
1. The total costs incurred if any for work undertaken by NZTA in relation to the recent Hikoi in
November. This should include costs from initial contact through to final execution for the Hikoi
throughout NZ.
2. Please detail what actions/role/ part NZTA had in facilitating the hikoi.
3. Please provide the number of staff and total time that staff worked on the hikoi.
4. Please provide all documentation/approvals regarding healthy and safety assessments,
insurance.
5. Please provide the initial contact emails between NZTA and the Hikio organisers - this should
include introductions, best contacts moving forward, and early questions around planning and
clearly demonstrate who the NZTA was dealing/meeting with.
6. Please provide any emails that that were to/from/cc'd to Eru Kapa-Kingi or any representative
from the Māori party.
The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days
after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it wil not be possible to meet that time limit, and
we are therefore writing to notify you that we are extending the 20-working-day time limit as allowed
for under section 15A of the Act. We need 10 more working days to ful y consider and respond to your
request and wil send you our response on or before 11 February 2025.
This extension is necessary because your request requires us to carry out consultations before a
decision on your request can be made. Therefore, a proper response cannot reasonably be made
within the original time limit.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman about the extension.
More information about the Ombudsman is available online at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

If you would like to discuss the extension with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, please contact
Ministerial Services by email to [NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
