Official information request for Clinical Psychology applications

I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated 26 November 2024:

“I am requesting information regarding:
- the number of registered psychologists who have applied for your clinical
psychology programme each year for the years 2020 - 2024.
- the number of registered psychologists who have been offered places in your
clinical psychology programme each year for the years 2020 - 2024.

…As such please, advise whether your clinical psychology admissions staff have

noted any new trends in clinical psychology applications - formally or informally
- that could be related to these proposed changes.”

The University does not require applicants to advise if they are a registered psychologist
when applying to the clinical psychology programme, although some applicants may
choose to include that information in their application at their own discretion. Identifying
the number of those who have chosen to provide this information would require a manual
search through every application received to ascertain whether this information was
provided.

As such, your request for information regarding the number of registered psychologists
who have applied or who have been offered places in the clinical psychology programme
each year is refused as the information requested is either not held by the University
(s18(e) of the Act), or, to the extent that it is held in some cases, cannot be made available
without substantial collation or research (s18(f) of the Act).

Your request for information regarding new trends in clinical psychology applications -
formally or informally - that could be related to these proposed changes is refused in
accordance with s18(e) of the Act as the document alleged to contain the information
requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of the
decisions made regarding this request. Information about how to make a complaint is
available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact me at
[VUW request email].
