Official Information Act request: Information on LGBTQIA+ wellbeing
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 4 November
2024. You requested:
“I am writing to request information regarding actions taken by your office to
address issues of homophobia and transphobia in New Zealand. Specifically, I
would like to understand the steps you and your government have taken during
this term to promote the safety, inclusion, and well-being of LGBTQIA+
communities.
Could you please provide information on:
[1]. Initiatives or Policies: Any policies, initiatives, or legislative measures
introduced or supported by your government to combat homophobia and
transphobia.
[2]. Public Statements or Commitments: Public statements, campaigns, or other
public commitments made to support LGBTQIA+ rights and to foster a more
inclusive society.
[3]. Future Commitments: Any future commitments or planned actions that your
government intends to take to continue addressing homophobia and transphobia.
Please provide any relevant reports, documents, or communications that outline
these efforts.”
For ease of reference, I have numbered your request.
This office does not hold the requested information as it relates to question [1] and question
[3] as the topic covers multiple portfolios and sits within multiple agencies. Therefore, I am
refusing your request under section 18(g) of the Act.
I am advised that there are policies and initiatives already in place and the following

or commitments relevant to this part of your request. This part is therefore refused under
section 18(e) of the Act, as the information requested does not exist.

section 28(3) of the Act.
