Official Information request – Tea room budgets 
I refer to your request for official information of 24 October 2024 in which you have requested the 
following information pertaining to HECS staff and postgraduate tea rooms F.1.09 and G.2.09: 
1. 
The annual allocated budget (from 2019 to 2024) to tea room amenities/consumables, including coffee, 
milk, tea, stirring sticks, etc. If information is not available specifically for F.1.09 and G.2.09, then a 
broad budget allocation breakdown across HECS tea rooms is acceptable. 
2. 
The projected consumable spend on the aforementioned tea rooms for 2025. 
This information should be broken down by these two tea rooms if possible. 
Under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act) the University of Waikato (University) has considered 
your request and provides the following information. 
1. 
The  University’s  tea  service  budget  is  based  on  all  13  serviced  tearooms  situated  on  its 
Hamilton Campus (Hamilton  Tearoom  Budget).    The  Hamilton  Tearoom  Budget has  an 
annual  consumable  spend  of  $110,000.  The  University  commenced  individualised 
consumption records for each tearoom in 2022.   
The University refuses your request to provide an annual allocated budget for the years 2019 
to 2021 for tearooms F.1.09 and G.2.09 (or broad budget allocation breakdown across HECS 
tea rooms) pursuant to section 18(e) of the Act on the basis that the specific information does 
not exist.  However, the University holds the following information for the years 2019 to 2021 
being the annual consumable spend for the Hamilton Tearoom Budget:

The University refuses your request to provide the projected consumable spend for 2025 for 
tearooms F.1.09 and G.2.09 pursuant to section 18(e) of the Act as the specific information 
does not exist.  However, the University can confirm that the annual consumable spend for 
the Hamilton Tearoom Budget will remain at $110,000 for 2025. 
You  have  the  right  to  seek  an  investigation  and  review  by  the  Ombudsman  of  this  decision.
