Thank you for your email, received on 22 October 2024, to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry
for Children (Oranga Tamariki), requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
•
Information on the rates of forcible removal of infants from their mothers in
the first year of life in New Zealand, both nationally and by region
•
Oranga Tamariki’s policy in the safety management of unborn infants and
efforts made to prevent forcible removal of infants before and after birth
•
The risk assessment tools that are used to assess the risk of unborn infants
ad what steps Oranga Tamariki has taken to try and ensure that these are
not a product of racist/culturally unsafe assessments by health or social
services workers.
The consultations necessary to make a decision on this request are such that a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. For this reason, I
am extending the time limit for providing you with the information to 6 December 2024
in accordance with section 15A(1)(b) of the Act. We will try to respond sooner than this
date if possible.
