Official Information Act request relating to Weekly reports – DPMC information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received by the
Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). You requested:
“I request all weekly reports from September and October 2024 from DPMC to the
Prime Minister.”
On 25 October 2024 you confirmed with staff in the Ministerial Services Team that you were
seeking copies of weekly reports sent from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
(DPMC) to the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Christopher Luxon.
We have interpreted this request to be for formal briefing documents (for example reports,
briefings, memoranda, aides memoire).
You will receive a separate response from the functional Chief Executive of Cyclone
Recovery in respect of any information they hold. The Cyclone Recovery Unit is a business
unit within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) which supports the
Chief Executive, Cyclone Recovery to deliver the Chief Executive’s functions.
This response relates to any other information held by DPMC.
Information to be withheld
Prime Minister Luxon receives the Prime Minister’s Weekly Brief; however, this is an
intelligence brief and copies of these documents are withheld in full under the following
sections of the Act:
• 6(a), to protect the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of
the Government of New Zealand
• 6(b)(ii), to protect the entrusting of information to the Government of New Zealand on
a basis of confidence by any international organisation.
Additionally, one weekly report is withheld in its entirety, including the title, under section 6(a)
of the Act, to protect the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of
the Government of New Zealand.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
