Thank you for your email of 17 October 2024 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wellington City
Council (the Council) requesting the following information:
•
Please provide all dates, if any, Mayor Tory Whanau has worked from home between
January 2023 to October 2024.
Your request has been considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and
Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).
Set work hours or work locations do not apply for elected members, and they are not subject
to employment contracts like staff are. This means that elected members may work from
home, or elsewhere, without notifying Council officials. They are generally available by
phone call, text, or email regardless of their place of work.
As there is no fixed workplace for Mayor Tory Whanau, these details are not recorded by
Council officials. Your request for information about her place of work is therefore refused
under section 17(g) of the Act, as the information requested is not held by the Council.
A summary of Mayor Whanau’s diary is published on our website
https:/ wellington.govt.nz/your-council/about-the-council/mayor-and-councillors/of ice-of-the-
mayor/mayor-tory-whanau. This will provide an overview of activities she has engaged in
during her time in office.
You have the right, by way of complaint under section 28(1) of the LGOIMA, to request an
investigation and review of the Council’s response to your information request, by the
Ombudsman. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
