Tēnā koe Janelle,
Thank you for your email of 24 September 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment

I am writing to formally request information under the Official Information Act 1982. Specifically, I
seek the official statistics regarding outcomes for offshore submitted fee-paying student visa
applications for clients who are of Myanmar nationality. I would appreciate if the data could be
broken down by month for the period from 24 January 2024 to 24 September 2024.
If possible, please provide the fol owing details for each month:
1, Total number of offshore fee-paying student visa applications submitted by Myanmar nationals.
2, Number of approved applications.
3, Number of declined applications.
4, Number of applications stil under assessment.
On 17 October 2024, we had contacted you to confirm the scope of the request and the fol owing range
was confirmed from the period 24 January to 24 September 2024, for fee-paying student visas submitted
offshore by applicants who are of Myanmar nationality, specifically for the visa decisions outcomes
(approved, declined, withdrawn, and total received), with the data broken down month by month.
On 22 October 2024, MBIE had extended the period of time available to make a decision on your request
under section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on your request were
such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
MBIE had advised that they would notify you of a decision on your request no later than 5 November
2024.
On 5 November 2024, MBIE had assessed and decided to grant your request, and would provide you the
requested information. However, it would take some time to process. MBIE had advised that we would
send you the information as soon as it is ready and without undue delay.
