[FYI request #28378 email] Tēnā koe John
I refer to your request on 12 September 2024 which has been considered under the
Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). You requested the following information about the
appointment of a Chair to the Broadcasting Commission (NZ On Air):
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have
call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications
you have received from the public and how many you have received from other
nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How
many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. The bio you
held for the appointed member. Also, the appointment letter sent to the
appointed member, of course you are feel free to remove any personal
information
The appointment of Philip Andrew Caisley (Andrew Caisley) was made on the expiry
of the term of the outgoing Chair, Dr Ruth Harley, after six years of service.
Appointments to the Chair position for NZ On Air are made by the Minister for Media
and Communications in accordance with section 45 of the Broadcasting Act 1989 and
Schedule 5 of the Crown Entities Act 2004. A public call for nominations is not required
under these Acts, thus was not conducted for this appointment process. Because of
this, applications were not received. Instead, candidates were selected from sources
such as the Manatū Taonga register of nominations, which includes members of the
public who have expressed interest in being a Crown board member; and nominations
previously received from Government population agencies (Te Puni Kōkori Ministry of
Māori Development, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, and Ministry of Women).
A shortlist of four candidates was compiled and the selected candidate undertook a
due diligence process, which included an interview.
