Thank you for your letter dated 31 August 2024 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wel ington City Council
(the Council) requesting the fol owing information:

Mayor Tory Whanu has already publicly declared some of the occasions she has caught
covid, so this is a simple request for clarification of al the dates and number of times the
Mayor has had Covid since being elected in 2022 resulting in her notifying her staff or unable
to attend events and come into the office.
Please provide all communications if any, concerning the above.
Your request has been considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA).
Please see below for al instances where Mayor Whanau has been unwel with Covid-19.
• 25 December 2022 – 31 December 2022
• 31 July 2023 – 2 August 2023
• 27 November 2023 – 1 December 2023
• 21 June 2024 – 23 June 2024
• 26 August 2024 – 1 September 2024
In each instance, Mayor Whanau has phoned her Chief of Staff to advise, and the Chief of Staff has
then verbally informed the mayor’s office. As these occurrences have al been through verbal
communications, there is no documentation to be released.
You have the right, by way of complaint under section 28(1) of the LGOIMA, to request an
investigation and review of the Council’s decision to withhold information by the Ombudsman.
