Thank you for your request to the Department of Conservation, received on 22 August 2024,
in which you asked for:
1) Please tell me if any kokako have been translocated to or from Mokaihaha Ecological
area years 2000 to 2022 and if so, how many and their survival rates.
2) Please tell me how many kiwi have been translocated to the mainland from Little
Barrier Island in the past five years (2018-current) and where they have been moved to
and any data you have about their survival rates
We have considered your request under the Of icial Information Act 1982.
Our responses are listed below:
1. No kokako have been translocated to or from Mokaihaha Ecological area from 2000
to 2022.
2. No kiwi have been translocated to the mainland from Lit le Barrier Island in the past
five years (2018-current).
