Official Information Act request: IPCA nominations 
 
Thank you for your email of 19 August 2024 to New Zealand Police, requesting under the 
Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act) information regarding the nominations for the 
members of the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA). 
 
On 22 August 2024, your request was transferred to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) as 
the matter you raise is more closely related to the functions of the Ministry. Specifically, you 
requested: 
 
… May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call 
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have 
received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating 
agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have 
shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. 
 
In response to your request, I can advise that the positions were not publicly advertised. The 
Minister of Justice, Hon Paul Goldsmith, invited nominations from the members of the 
Government caucus and the leaders of coalition parties. The Chairperson of the IPCA was 
also given the opportunity to provide nominations. A total of four nominations were received 
and the Minister made his selection on the papers. There were no interviews.
