Response to your request for official information Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of
Health – Manatū Hauora (the Ministry) on 18 August 2024 for information regarding the board
member appointments processes for the Pharmacy Council and Osteopathic Council of New
Zealand (the Osteopathic Council).
I have responded to each part of your request below.
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for
public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website.
The roles on both Councils were publicly advertised on the Ministry’s Careers webpage and the
New Zealand Government Jobs website. The Pharmacy Council advertisement was live from 11
July 2024 to 26 July 2024 and the Osteopathic Council advertisement was live from 4 July 2024
to 29 July 2024.
Also, how many board member applications you have received from the public (for your
lay member and health practitioners role) and how many you have received from other
nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role.
The Ministry received a total of 74 applications for the Pharmacy Council. There were 52 health
practitioners, 20 laypersons, and 2 people who did not fit within the definition of a health
practitioner or a layperson (in accordance with the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance
Act 2003). Of the 74 applications, 4 were either not valid or the applicant was ineligible. There
were a total of 4 nominations received from nominating agencies. Three are included in the total
count of applications. There was one nominated person who did not submit an application.
The Ministry received 8 health practitioner applications for the Osteopathic Council.
Nominations were also sought from a variety of nominating agencies, but no nominations were
received for the Osteopathic Council.
How many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed.
Candidates are yet to be shortlisted and interviewed for either Council.
When you expect the process will concluded
The appointments process can take between 6 and 12 months to complete. It is estimated that
both Councils’ appointments will be completed in late 2024 or early 2025. However, this is
subject to change.
