[FYI request #28097 email]
Dear John Luke
Thank you for your email of 18 August 2024 requesting the following under the Of icial
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
I noted, you have recently call for nomination for your Recycling Leadership Forum
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have
received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating
agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have
shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. When you expect the process wil
concluded
The Ministry for the Environment (the Ministry) has addressed each point of your request in
the breakdown, below.
A process was run in late 2023 to identify members for the Recycling Leadership Forum
(RLF). The Forum consists of ten members, with two representatives from each of the five
relevant sectors: packaging, retail, brand owners, recyclers, and councils.   Nominations
were called directly from each of these sector industry groups. Due to the timing and nature
of your request our interpretation is that you are most interested in the Independent Chair
selection process, which involved a recent public call for Expressions of Interest.
1. How was the cal  for public nominations made, and on which platforms?
The Expression of Interest (EOI) for Independent Chair of the RLF was advertised in the
following locations:
• MfE Website
• Govt Jobs
• LinkedIn (link shared)
• Seek.
2. How many applications were received from the public and nominating agencies (e.g.,
TPK, Ministry for Women)?
By the closing date of 2 August 2024, 14 EOIs were received from the public. We have not
received any nominations from other government agencies.
3. How many candidates were shortlisted and interviewed?
Following independent assessments by three Ministry staff members, six candidates have
been identified for further consideration. Ministry staff wil  be working in conjunction with
members of the Recycling Leadership Forum to finalise a shortlist of two to three candidates
for interviews, which are anticipated to take place in the coming weeks.
4. When do you expect the process to conclude?
The process is expected to conclude at the end of September 2024.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Office of the Ombudsman of my
decision relating to this request, in accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. The relevant
details can be found on their website at: www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

Please note that due to the public interest in our work the Ministry for the Environment
publishes responses to requests for official information on our OIA responses page shortly
after the response has been sent.  If you have any queries about this, please feel free to
contact our Ministerial Services team: [email address].

Yours sincerely
