Tēnā koe Richard
Thank you for your email, received on 9 August 2024, to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for
Children (Oranga Tamariki) requesting information regarding advice on impacts to
disabled tamariki. Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act).
You requested:
Please provide all advice on the impact the recent funding cuts wil have on disabled
tamariki in social service providers' care.
I have interpreted your question to be for all advice Oranga Tamariki has given or
received on impacts to disabled tamariki due to service provider contracting decisions for
the 2024/25 financial year.
Oranga Tamariki has not received or given specific advice about the impacts that funding
cuts wil have on disabled tamariki. Therefore, I am refusing your request under section
18(f) of the Act as the document alleged to contain the information requested does not
exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
Oranga Tamariki funds service providers to ensure they can deliver essential services to
support vulnerable children and families, including disabled children. Note, there are two
specialist teams dedicated to supporting the needs of children with disabilities involved
in the commissioning of specialist services for FY 2024/2025. By funding these contracts
Oranga Tamariki can provide a range of services to help improve the well-being of
children and young people across New Zealand. Changes to Oranga Tamariki
contracting changes are not funding cuts driven by cuts to Oranga Tamariki
appropriations.
The 2024/25 financial year annual review process is ongoing, and contracts with service
providers are still being negotiated.
