Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 3 August 2024. You
requested:
Please provide me with al the documents, manuals, policy, training & advice
and the associated linked pages on the internal police intranet based "Hate
hub" as revealed by a senior police officer in the Free Speech Unions press
release on the new hate speech policy being introduced by the Police.
New Zealand Police does not maintain a ‘hate hub’ database or team where hate-
motivated offences and/or incidents are recorded or investigated. Your request for
information regarding the ‘hate hub’ is therefore refused under section 18(e) of the OIA as
the information requested does not exist.
Please note, due to the high volume of OIA requests on this topic Police is working on
publishing information related to hate-motivated crime and the related hate-motivated
crime training. This aims to address concerns and questions that have been raised
regarding this.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
