Dear Mr Michel 
I refer to your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), on 2 August 2024 regarding 
KiwiRail’s DL class locomotive fleet, asking: 
Could you please provide an updated full fleet list of the DL Class locomotives, again with each one’s 
date of entry into service, now including the locomotives received in 2023?  
Please find the request information attached. 
Please note KiwiRail has 73 DL locomotives, of which 58 are currently in service. The 15 locomotives 
removed from service are parked at Hutt Workshops in Woburn.  
This decision has been made under the OIA. You have the right to seek an investigation and review 
of this response by the Ombudsman, in accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. The relevant details 
can be found on the Ombudsman’s website: www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
