Thank you for your email of 26 July 2024 to the Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama
Aotearoa, requesting the following information:
Can you provide me with any reports or briefings relating to the Waikeria prison
expansion and Honeywell's involvement? The date range can be from 2022 onwards.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
We have interpreted your request for information about the
‘Waikeria prison expansion’, to
relate to the planned 810-bed extension to Waikeria Prison, which was announced in May
2024.
This project is still in the early planning stages. Corrections confirms there are no reports or
briefings relating to this project involving Honeywell, therefore your request is refused
under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the documents alleged to contain the information
requested do not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate them, cannot be found.
As per section 18B of the OIA, we have considered whether asking you to refine or amend
your request would enable us to provide a response. However, as the documents do not
exist, we do not consider that the request can be refined in this instance.
Please note that this response may be published on Corrections’ website. Typically,
responses are published quarterly or as otherwise determined. Your personal information
including name and contact details will be removed for publication.
