Official Information Act request relating to information about to use of EMF in New 
Zealand 
 
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act (the Act), received on 25 
July 2024. You requested: 
 
“1. Has the use of EMF been authorised for use in NZ? 
 
2. Was EMF used during the protest in Wellington? 
 
3. If used, for what duration was it used, and who authorised it?” 
 
I have interpreted “EMF” to stand for Electro Magnetic Fields. The Department of the Prime 
Minister and Cabinet does not hold information  relating to parts 2 and 3 of your request for 
information relating to the use of EMF in New Zealand. I believe this information is held by the 
New Zealand Police. Accordingly, I have decided to transfer parts 2 and 3 of your request to 
the New Zealand Police under section 14(b)(i) of the Act. Part 1 of the request will remain with 
the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. 
 
The New Zealand Police has the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt of this transfer 
to make a decision on your request.
