Official Information Act Request
We refer to your official information request dated 11 July 2024 which was transferred to us
by the Civil Aviation Authority (“CAA”) on 16 July 2024 for the following information:
All the information that you hold on a circular flight over Oamaru / coastal North
Otago recorded on 19 March 2024 at 9:30am (see link below). Specifically, I request the
following information –
- The airport or airfield from which the flight departed Auckland Airport
- The airport or airfield where the flight landed Dunedin Airport
- The flight number ANZ671
- The registration details of the aircraft U/K
- The make and model of the aircraft A320 (Airbus)
- The name and position of the person who authorised the flight We are refusing your
request under section 18(g) as we do not hold any official information.
- The name of the entity responsible for the flight Air New Zealand
- The specific details of the substance or substances emitted from the aircraft during
the flight (as seen on the video referenced below - clearly *not* a vapour trail)
We do not hold any official information on this particular request and therefore we will
need to refuse it under section 18(g). However, you might find some relevant information
about trails visible in the sky on the CAA’s website through the link below.

- The purpose of the flight and its emissions. The purpose of the flight is to travel from
Auckland to Dunedin. We do not hold any official information about the emissions from this
flight and therefore, we are refusing your request under section 18(g).
