Your request for official information, reference: HNZ00054122
Thank you for your email on 25 June 2024, asking Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora for the
following under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
“Are you able to provide the total annual cases since 1970 of the following illnesses
Tetanus
Diptheria
Whooping Cough
Rotavirus
Polio
Hepatitis B
Haemophilus / influenza type b (hib)
Pneumococcal
Meningcoccal B
Measles
Mumps
Rubella
Chicken Pox”
Response
Part of your request asks for information which is more closely aligned with the functions of the
Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited (ESR). For this reason, Health NZ
partially transferred your request to ESR under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act on 05 July 2024. You
can expect a response from ESR in due course.
Health NZ does not receive national level data about diagnoses made by primary care providers,
for example General Practitioners (GPs). As illnesses such as chicken pox and rotavirus may be
diagnosed in a primary care setting, we therefore do not hold data on all such cases.
For this reason, we must refuse the reminder of your request under section 18(g) of the Act, as the
information you have requested is not held by us and we have no grounds to believe that the
information is held by another entity subject to the Act.
