Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-032679 
Thank you for your message via fyi.org.nz of 15 July 2024 about ACC’s decision to decline your request. 
  
ACC asked for information about your request for legitimate reasons under the Official Information Act. 
ACC has already explained both those reason and its basis for its decision to decline.  
  
ACC notes you do not accept its decision to decline. This is not something ACC expects to be able to resolve 
with you in more correspondence.  
  
Please do now raise the matter with the Ombudsman. If you are unable to answer ACC’s question for a 
reason that you cannot tell ACC, then maybe you will be able to tell the Ombudsman instead.     
  
The information sought about who you are and why you were making your request were the minimum 
necessary for four reasons:  
  
1.  ACC was entitled to ask if your request was one of several related requests made by the same or 
related people; 
2.  ACC gave you the option to provide any personal information confidentially; and 
3.  ACC invited you to suggest other ways to provide information to address ACC’s concerns if you did 
not agree with ACC’s questions or the options given to you about how you might answer them; and 
4.  You did not have to answer all of ACC's questions about your personal information if you preferred 
not to, although ACC advised you that whether and how you answered ACC’s questions was 
relevant to ACC’s decision whether to respond to your official information request.
