We refer to your email of 27 May 2024 in which you request the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
“Please provide the following information relating to the Christchurch Call:
1.
Itinerary (dates, location, duration, who was traveling etc) of all travel associated with
the Christchurch Call for all personnel associated with Christchurch Call including Special
Envoy. For each itinerary please identify the role of the individuals involved.
2.
Costs associated with each separate itinerary including breakdown of flights,
accommodation, food and other related items.
3.
If there is any future travel planned, breakdown of the estimated cost (budget) for those
itineraries.
Above information is requested for the period since Christchurch Call was initiated until now,
including any future travel planned.”
On 5 June 2024 you agreed to refine your request as follows:
“Please provide the following information relating to the Christchurch Call:
1.
Dates, location, and purpose of the most significant travel associated with the
Christchurch Call for all personnel associated with Christchurch Call including Special
Envoy.
2.
Total costs for each financial year associated with travel.
3.
If there is any future travel planned, breakdown of the estimated cost (budget) for those
itineraries.
Above information is requested for the period since Christchurch Call was initiated until now,
including any future travel planned.”
On 6 June 2024 your request was transferred in part under section 14(b)(ii) of the OIA to the
Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) for response.
In response to part one of your request, please see
Annex A for information relating to the most
significant travel paid for by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). Please note that
this does not contain costs for travel associated with Special Envoy - you are referred to DPMC’s
response for this information.
In response to part two of your request, please see
Annex B for the total costs incurred by MFAT
for each financial year associated with travel for the Christchurch Call.

Part three of your request is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the information does not
exist. No future travel associated with the Christchurch Call has been planned by MFAT.

The figures provided above include all travel costs incurred by MFAT only in relation to the Christchurch Call and are not limited to
those provided for most significant travel in response to part one of your request.

The variance in expenditure between financial years is due to the hosting of Leaders’ Summits. In 2020/21 a Leaders’ Summit did
not take place, and in 2021/22 a virtual Summit was held.
•
Any costs incurred and not coded as in relation to the Christchurch Call have not been included in this response.
