Official Information Act request dated 21 May 2024 
We refer to your email  dated  21 May  2024  (your  Request) requesting  information 
under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). TVNZ’s response is set out below. 
Request 1: What communications do TVNZ hold in relation to participate in Eurovision 
over the last 3 years?  
 
Response  1:  This request is declined on the basis of section 18(e) of the Act: no 
responsive information exists.  
 
In accordance with the Act’s principle of transparency, please  note that TVNZ is in 
possession of a 2017 proposal document in respect of Eurovision Asia  and some 
associated correspondence (not with the EBU). As you may know, Eurovision Asia did 
not proceed in 2017.  
 
This information has been withheld on the basis of section 9(2)(b)(ii) of the Act: to 
protect information the release of which would prejudice the commercial position of 
the supplier of that information. 
 
 
Request 2: Has TVNZ looked at becoming a member of the EBU? If so what information 
do you hold on this? 
 
Response 2: This request is declined on the basis of section 18(e) of the Act: no 
responsive information exists. To be clear, TVNZ has not looked in to becoming a 
member of the EBU.  
 
 
Request  3:  Would TVNZ put a formal request to the EBU to secure New Zealand a 
place in the Eurovision Song Contest? If not will you do this? 
 
Response 3: This is not a request for official information and again, section 18(e) of the 
Act applies: no responsive information exists.
