OIA: 1328103 – Spend on gifted and talented education
Thank you for your email of 6 May 2024 to the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) requesting the
following information:
Can you please tell me how much was spent on gifted and talented education in
New Zealand last year and how much are you spending this year?

Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
As advised in our letter to you on 4 June 2024, part one of your request has been refused under
section 18(d) of the Act, as the 2022-2023 spend was published in an Official Information
Response on the Ministry’s website on 12 December 2023 and is therefore publicly available. The
response is titled “Information in relation to Priority Five, Learning Support Action Plan”. You can
find the financial figures in 1318502 Appendix A at the following weblink:
https://www.education.govt.nz/our-work/information-releases/responses-to-official-information-act-
requests/responses-to-official-information-act-requests-2023/

So that you can compare the 2023-2024 financial year data with what is publicly available for prior
years, we have compiled the information in the same table format as the response noted above
(1318502 Appendix A). This information is provided in Table One below. The figures may vary
slightly when we receive final invoices for 2023-2024 from providers.
Please note, we may publish this response on our website after five working days. Your name and
contact details will be removed.
Thank you again for your email. You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to review my decision
on your request, in accordance with section 28 of the Act. You can do this by writing to
[email address] or to Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.
