Thank you for your emails of 29 April 2024, asking for the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

Research Costs/Grants from the ACC pertaining to CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy)

For ease of responding, we have combined your requests related to
CTE (Chronic Traumatic
Encephalopathy).
Correspondence between the New Zealand Rugby Union and ACC is attached
This is the only correspondence ACC holds between itself and other sports organisations regarding
Chronic
Traumatic Encephalopathy. Names and images have been removed as they are out of scope of your
request.
Research costs/grants
ACC has not provided research costs or grants relating to
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).
Therefore, we are refusing this part of your request as the information does not exist. This decision has
been made under section 18(e) of the Act.
Costs for CTE claims
The total cost for known Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy claims is $1,864,563. ACC does not have a
centralised record of confirmed CTE claims and the total cost provided is based on claims that are known.
Therefore, the actual total cost may be higher than what is provided in this response.
