Just to let you know that this Bill does not appear to have been discussed at Business Committee this week:

Thanks Kelly – I get that you can’t share it without the authority of the Member.
I’m interested in anything you can share Ben, S18(c)(ii)
– assuming that is what the Business Committee will be deciding tomorrow, and notifying on Wednesday?

I worked on a member’s bill that was adopted by the govt but it was such a long time ago I can’t remember anything
about how that happened! So any assistance would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Hi Georgie,
I appreciate that this is frustrating, but unfortunately draft legislation is legal advice so I cannot share it with you
without the authority of the member the bill was drafted for, which I do not have.
In terms of what happened at the Officers of Parliament Committee, I wasn’t there, but my colleague Ben (cc’d
above) is the Clerk of that committee and he will be able to assist you with your queries about that.
Cheers

Appreciate you letting us know if anything comes out of the Business Committee determinations on Wednesday. In
the meantime, are we able to find about anything more from the Officers of Parliament Committee? S18(c)(ii)
Any chance it could be shared with us so we can begin to
prepare sooner rather than later to support our Minister?
Thanks

I’ll let you know if anything comes out of the Business Committee determinations on Wednesday but if it is a
Government Bill it would not require a resolution of the committee to progress differently than the SOs would
otherwise provide.
Kind regards

Kia ora PLP folks,
I’m passing on a request for access to the draft amendment to the Ombudsman Act. My
understanding is the Ministry of Justice has been asked to prepare a paper on the subject, for urgent
Cabinet consideration.
@Kelly, are you able to grant this access permission please? I’l admit I’m entirely unfamiliar with PLP’s
systems and processes, so I’ve ccd Georgie Handley from MoJ to confirm any details.
The Speaker has approved the release of the PLP draft.

Hi Ben
We have just got an update from our MO – apparently the decision is not to legislate now, and reappointment is the
preferred option. So no need for the Bill now.
Thanks for your time and patience as we worked this one through!
