Official information request regarding expenditure on pipes 
Thank you for your request transferred from the Wellington City Council on 15 April 2024 
asking for the fol owing: 
1.  How much money has been spent on Wel ington water pipes in each year over the last 
5 years. 
 
2.  Additionally I request if their has been any upgrades or increase in storage capacity 
over  the  last  5  years  that  could  have  affected  water  pressure.  What  has  been  the 
average water pressure across the water network each year for the last 5 years.

1. How much money has been spent on Wel ington water pipes in each year over the last 5 
years. 
  The folowing table details the total expenditure; Capital and Operational (maintenance, 
repairs, renewals and upgrades) for drinking water pipes owned by Wel ington City 
Council that are in the Wellington Water pipe network1:

Please note the fol owing: 
1 Wel ington Water pipes are classified as the drinking water, stormwater and wastewater 
pipes owned by Wel ington City Council, Porirua City Council, Upper Hutt City Council, Hutt 
City Council, South Wairarapa District Council but not the bulk water network owned by 
Greater Wel ington Regional Council.   
2 The financial year is 1 July – 30 June and this information is reported as at end of March  
2024 
 
2. Additionally I request if their has been any upgrades or increase in storage capacity over 
the last 5 years that could have affected water pressure. What has been the average 
water pressure across the water network each year for the last 5 years.  
  New storage reservoirs constructed in the last five years have not increased system 
pressure, as they have been constructed to match the geographical elevation of existing 
reservoirs. 
Wellington  Water  has  an  ongoing  program  of  pressure  management  improvements  to 
reduce areas of high pressure to within the target level of service (25 – 90m pressure).  The 
average supply pressure in the Wel ington City Council water supply network is around 
65m.
