Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of 
Health – Manatū Hauora (the Ministry) on 6 March 2024 for information regarding Smokefree. 
You requested:  
 
“…any correspondence or research you have conducted concerning future costs, related 
to things such as loss of life and healthcare spending, related to the rollback of the 
Smokefree Legislation.” 
 
The information you seek is refused under section 18(e) of the Act, as the information requested 
does not exist. The Ministry has not conducted any research concerning future costs, related to 
the loss of life and healthcare spending related to the rollback of the Smokefree Legislation. 
There is also no correspondence within the Ministry discussing these matters.
