Hi s7(2)(a) privac

Nice to hear from you.   I can really appreciate the concerns being felt by the Baltic
States and other countries which were previously part of the Soviet bloc.
Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was unjustified, unprovoked and shrouded with lies around
his intentions.
The blood of thousands of people will be on his hands and his actions take us back to
the worst years of the Cold War.

On behalf of Auckland Council I have expressed our solidarity with the people of
Ukraine and this courages fight to preserve their freedom and independence.
I persuaded the Museum, skytower and Harbour bridge to light up their struggles in the
yellow and blue of Ukraines flag over the last three nights.
Can you please pass on my apologies for the virtual meeting on 9 March because of
other commitments but feel free to extend ot them the views of our city in condemnation
of the invasion and in support of the people Ukraine and Europe,

Kind regards
Phil

Phil Goff

Dear Phil,

Its been a little while since we caught up at the celebration of the Baltic way .
As the events of the past few days are intensifying in the Ukraine. As a past Minister of foreign
affairs and the Mayor of Auckland  I have been asked by Andrius Vysniaukaus Member of the
Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania  (Member of Parliament )  Head of Group for inter
Parliamentary relations with countries  of Australia and Oceania .
To invite you to a virtual meeting  with other members of  the Lithuanian Parliament who want
to tell colleagues in the New Zealand Parliament what is happening ( from our perspective and
knowledge )in Ukraine ,
What kind of support we and the EU are giving . Of course they would like to hear the opinions
of colleagues from New Zealand and discuss what they could help for Ukraine (diplomatic and
humanitarian solutions).
In attendance from the Lithuanian delegation will be HE Darius Degutis the Lithuanian
Ambassador for Australia and New Zealand , Andrius Vysniaukaus,  Laima Andrikiene(

Dear Mr Goff,
I along with many other Aucklanders are deeply concerned about the
unprovoked agression of the Putin regime against democratic Ukraine.
I am asking you to approach the relevant people at sky city with a suggestion
as to how the people of Auckland can express their solidarity with the people
of Ukraine and stand with them against agression and dictatorship.
I suggest that the sky tower be lit up in the colours of the Ukranian flag (blue
and yellow).
As a former foreign minister of our country  I am sure you appreciate the
gravity of the developing crisis and the importance of collective security of
free people.
This is currently being done at other world landmarks such as the
Brandenburg gate and the Empire state building.
Yours sincerely

On behalf of the Mayor, thank you for your query regarding the lighting of Auckland landmarks with
the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

You will be pleased to know that in unequivocal support of the people of Ukraine, the city of Auckland
lit up our skies with the colours of the Ukraine national flag, which for three days were projected onto
key landmarks in our city: The Auckland Sky Tower, the Auckland Harbour Bridge and the Auckland
War Memorial Museum.

Attached are images for your information.
