Re: Auckland Museum lights for Ukraine
I refer to your email, which we received on 4 December 2023, requesting information about a
request to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to light in the colours of Ukraine.
Your specific request and our response are below.
This is to request a copy of the correspondence (emails, txt messages etc) regarding
Mayor Phil Goffs request to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to light in the
colours of Ukraine. My understanding is that this request was made in February 2022.
Response to include the request and any replies.
Upon receipt of your request, we transferred it to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to
respond to as believed they would be best placed to respond, especially as the
correspondence was from a previous mayor. We notified you of this on 8 December 2023,
once we had confirmation of acceptance of transfer from the museum.
You did request that we not close this request for Auckland Council as you believed Auckland
Council may still hold records that the museum does not, and if these records exist then you
would like them.
We are unable to provide any historical phone call or text message information, as our service
provider does not hold information for that period of time, and we do not hold these records.
We however did perform a search for historical emails using the following parameters:
• Any emails from
[email address] from Feb 1 2022 -March 31 2022
with the keywords – museum, and/or Ukraine.
• Any emails from any aucklandcouncil.govt.nz email address from Feb 1 2022 - March
31 2022 with the keywords – museum, and/or Ukraine, this was to ensure any
relevant email was covered as we did not have the names of previous staff members
who this correspondence may have come from.

For the first search we returned 83 results. On review, please find attached 3 emails that
have been identified in scope of your request, noting some information has been withheld
with reliance on LGOIMA section 7(2)(a)
to protect privacy.
For the second search we returned 3360 emails, and to review these for relevancy would
take a significant amount of time.
Accordingly, we are unable to fulfil your request under LGOIMA section 17(f) - that the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
The decision by Auckland Council to release the information contained in this response was
made by Leigh Collecutt, Privacy and Of icial Information Manager.
