Re: Public Rubbish Bin locations & removals

Thank you for your email dated 22 February 2024, in which you requested information about
Auckland Council’s  litter bin removal project.  The specific details of your request and our
response are below.

Please provide the location of the bins as identified in Auckland Councils review of
Rubbish Bins -  https:/ ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/news/2024/02/removing-
under-used-rubbish-bins-saves-aucklanders-millions/).

Specifical y, as part of the above project, Auckland Council considered the location and

usage of the relevant bins in public spaces. I'm seeking the location of the relevant bins
that were assessed, and a list of which bins were removed as part of the optimization
process.

For example, a GIS file or similar of the ~10,000 bin locations that were assessed, with

the  ~3,000 bins that were marked for removal noted in the data please.

Please refer to the attached ‘Bin Removal Data’ containing the total list of bin locations (as x,

y coordinates) and those bins proposed for removal as of October 2023, following
assessment by Parks and Community Facilities staff and informal feedback from local
boards.

Please note, for the four Local Boards, Papakura, Manurewa, Franklin, and Rodney, who

decided to contribute Locally Driven Initiative funding to retain their bins, their bin locations
are in the ‘To Be Retained’ column.

The removal of the bins is still in progress and is anticipated to be completed in

approximately early May, the locations of all bins that have been removed will then be able
to be confirmed.
