Dear Joshua Sims
Thank you for your email of 21 February 2024 requesting information relating proposed job
cuts within the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Your request has been considered
under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You requested the following:

teams and other groupings of this nature, if any, that are going to be cut from your relevant
Ministry or departmental agency owing to the government’s policy of reducing the public
service.
Relevant information would include: The roles that may be considered superfluous enough
to warrant redundancy and why Any bodies, boards, working groups or
researchers/research teams considered superfluous enough to be closed or made
redundant and why A brief accompanying description of the duties, roles, scope and
cancelled projects of the above mentioned where relevant to the individual or group in
question.
The requested information is budget sensitive and is therefore withheld pursuant to section
9(2)(f)(iv) of the OIA -
to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which
protect the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials.
MPI is satisfied that in the circumstances of this case, the withholding of the information is
not outweighed by other considerations which render it desirable in the public interest to
make the information available.
Should you have any concerns with this response, I would encourage you to raise these with
the Ministry for Primary Industries at
[email address]. Alternatively, you
are advised of your right to also raise any concerns with the Office of the Ombudsman.
