Official information request regarding University Council nominations
I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated 18 February 2024:
“I noted you have call for council member via TEC and possibly other platform.
May I ask have you called for public nomination on any other platform e.g.
govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have received from the
public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as
TPK or Ministry of women etc. Also, what would be the process look like and
when the nomination period ends. Further, may I kindly request a copy of your
advertisement.”
Te Herenga Waka is not currently advertising for a Council member. The current vacancy
relates to ministerial appointments to University councils. The process for ministerial
appointments is managed by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), not individual
Universities.
In our view, it would have been necessary under s14 of the Act to transfer your request to
the TEC because the information you requested is held by that agency. However, we are
aware that you have already made requests for this information to the TEC who have
recently provided you with information regarding this process. Therefore we have not
transferred it.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of the
decisions made regarding this request. Information about how to make a complaint is
available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact me at
[VUW request email].
