We’re just waiting for the contractor to get a few things sorted and come back to us on some

The Ministry of Education have been working through the tender for the construction contract for the
Kaipara College works.
The costs for delivering the innovation centre have been evaluated and are extremely high, as a result we
need to pause this project to look over these costs. The project is to be funded from Roll Growth and as

discussed there has been a decrease in enrolments in the past few years, this has been a pattern across
several Auckland Schools.
As a result of these factors this now means construction won’t start on the innovation centre over the
summer school holidays. We recognise that your current property provision for tech isn’t fit for purpose,
and we’ll work with you in the new year to consider the right way forward, at the right time.
Other parts of the property project will progress as planned over summer:
The new staff carpark works will continue and are expected to be completed at the end of
January.
The demolition of the caretaker’s shed, and replacement will be undertaken over the holidays.
The new whare ako and new faculty for special education builds will continue.
The existing whare ako will be demolished this week, and the new build will start in January.
Once the new whare ako is complete, construction will start on moving and converting the
existing modular classrooms for the special education unit.

Once we have reviewed the challenges above, we will reconvene with you and discuss the progression of
the innovation centre.

As this may involve a bit of back and forth with the Designers, Quantity Surveyors and Engineers, we don’t
expect this exercise to be completed this year and so we will look to re-engage in the new year.
