The Minister of Education, Hon Erica Stanford, has asked me to reply to your email of 
Insert Date
 2023 about the Innovation Centre project at Kaipara College. I acknowledge the 
pause in construction has been frustrating for the school and its community, and I appreciate you 
taking the time to write. 
The Secretary for Education, Iona Holsted, has looked into the matter and apologised to the school 
for the way decisions around the pause in construction of the Innovation Centre were handled and 
communicated.  
Information 
The decision to pause work on the Innovation Centre was made because of the high cost of 
delivering the project and because previously projected roll growth has not occurred. However, the 
Ministry’s communication and engagement with the school on these issues should have been 
better. 
The Ministry will work closely with Kaipara College to reach a confirmed or revised building 
Official 
programme in the coming months.
