I refer to your information request dated 7 February 2024 made under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act). You have requested: 
 
Could you please provide the cumulative GPA of all students who studied an LLB, BCom with a 
major in Finance in 2023. This need not exclude students who are studying a double major or 
have an additional minor for their BCom. Moreover, please only provide the GPA of those 
students who are enrolled or have been enrolled in a 300- or 400-level Law paper. This request 
relates to students who were enrolled at the University of Otago in 2023. 
 
 
Subject to the following comments, please see attached the information you have requested: 
 
•  The data is correct as at 15 February 2024 and is calculated using all confirmed paper results 
as of this date (i.e., not just those taken for the LLB or for the BCom Finance major). Therefore, 
the cumulative GPA calculations will include student results from non-LAWS and non-FINC 
papers at all year levels. 
 
•  Only students concurrently enrolled in both programmes (LLB and BCom majoring in Finance) 
in 2023, who were also enrolled in one or more 300- or 400-level LAWS papers in 2023, are 
included in the data. 
 
•  Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) programme are included in the data. 
 
•  Further information on how the University calculates GPA is available on the University’s 
website.
