Thank you for your email of 3 February 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing information:
I am writing to request all list of IT startup companies in New Zealand for the years 2023 and 2024. Any
information is highly appreciated.
On 5 February 2024 MBIE advised that the Companies Office does not have a category for or data on startups but
can provide a list of companies registered in 2023 and 2024 that are engaged in IT-related activities. On the same
day, you provided the Business Industry Classification (BIC) codes for the categories you were interested in receiving
company information for.
Please find attached the requested data. This information has been identified from a search of the companies
register on 21 February 2024 using the BIC codes you provided.
The caveats and limitations of the information are set out below.
1.
Only companies which have provided their BIC code are included in the file. Where a company elects to
provide a BIC code, they select the code that best describes the entity’s business.
2.
Companies with more than one BIC code appear more than once on the spreadsheet.
3.
Only information which is publicly available on the companies register is included in the file.
Some information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the privacy of natural persons. I do
not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public interest considerations in making the
information available.
For similar information requests, you may find it helpful to visit the Companies Office’s Data Services page at:
https://www.companiesoffice.govt.nz/data-services/contact/, where you can submit a data request.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request or this response, or if you require any further assistance, please
