Dear Anonymous

Thank you for your email of 26 January 2024 requesting information relating to the request
for Government agencies to identify savings. Your request has been considered under the
Of icial Information Act 1982 (OIA).

You requested the following:

Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

To quote RNZ article dated 26/01/2024, paragraph 6:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/507556/governmentaccused-of-quietly-
expanding-remit-of-public-service-cuts

"Now, Finance Minister Nicola Wil is' office has confirmed she asked "all

departments" to identify savings in December, not just those listed in National's
election policy."

I'm requesting the release of documents regarding MPI agency "savings" supplied to

and received from parliament.

And I'm asking the following questions:

Has MPI identified savings?

What is the value of savings MPI has identified?
Do those savings include the restructure, or redundancy of MPI staff?
If so, which Directorates are identified as having staff costs that can be cut?
What assessments have been undertaken to scope the impact these savings wil
have to the delivery of MPI projects or services?

The requested information is budget sensitive, therefore is withheld in full pursuant to section
9(2)(f)(iv) of the OIA - to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect
the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials.
MPI is satisfied that in the circumstances of this case, the withholding of the information is
not outweighed by other considerations which render it desirable in the public interest to
make the information available.
