Dear James
Official Information Act request relating to breakdown of costs paid to Dame Jacinda
Ardern for her Special Envoy role.
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 23 January
2024. You requested:
A detailed breakdown of all reimbursement costs paid to date, to Dame Jacinda Ardern
in relation to her role as special envoy role with the Christchurch Call.
On the 26 January 2024 you clarified with the Ministerial Service team that you were
seeking:
Any costs that were either reimbursed to Ardern (that she claimed and then submitted
for reimbursement) and all associated costs for actual and reasonable expenses. This
should include but not be limited to travel, accommodation, food, any per diems, etc.
Information being released:
Special Envoy Ardern has not claimed or submitted any costs for reimbursement from the
Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). DPMC has therefore made no
reimbursements to the Special Envoy directly. The Special Envoy also does not receive a
salary for her role.
I can advise between 17 April 2023 and 23 January 2024 (date your request was submitted)
that DPMC contributed $17,236.00 towards travel (airfares or other transport) and
accommodation only, so that the Special Envoy could attend meetings for her role. A
breakdown of these costs by type of expenditure is provided below in NZD($).
Type
Total amount between 17 April 2023 - 23 January 2024
Airfares
$12,424.84
Other transportation
$3,059.46
Accommodation
$1,751.70
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under section
28(3) of the Act. We do not intend to publish this response on the Department of the Prime
Minister and Cabinet’s website.
Yours sincerely
