Thank you for your request, which was transferred to Heath New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora on 16
January 2024, asking for the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act):
I would like to make a request for Hospital admissions for Thrombosis related
conditions broken down by month ranging from years 2012-2023.
Please provide a count of number patients admitted by month for Thrombosis
related conditions, including but not limited to PE's, DVT, Strokes etc.

Please refer to
Appendix One which provides the number of publicly funded hospital
discharges per month, from July 2012 to June 2023 for conditions related to your request.
Please note that data from 2022 and 2023 is provisional.
We have used the following ICD-10-AM codes to identify hospitalisations related to Thrombosis:
• I80 - Phlebitis and thrombophlebitis
• I81 - Portal vein thrombosis
• I82 - Other venous embolism and thrombosis
We have used the following ICD-10-AM codes to identify hospitalisations related to Stroke
conditions:
• I63 - Cerebral infarction
• I64 - Stroke, not specified as haemorrhage or infarction
• 174 - Arterial embolism and thrombosis
