Re: amalgamation of neighbouring Councils
I refer to your email dated 25 May 2012, requesting information about any potential amalgamation
of neighbouring Councils.
As per your request, please find attached a list of all positions (job titles) employed by Auckland
Council, and the number of staff in each of those roles as at 13 June 2012.
In regards to “any briefings, reports, advice, transcripts, notes, correspondence, aide memoires or
any other documents regarding any proposal to amalgamate the Council with neighbouring
Councils”, this part of your request is refused under section 17(e) of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) 1987, as “the document alleged to contain the information
requested does not exist or cannot be found”.
Please note that Auckland Council was established on 1 November 2010 as the result of an
amalgamation of Auckland’s legacy Councils. Should you wish to view information regarding the
amalgamation, please visit the Auckland Transition Agency website – www.ata.govt.nz.
Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to your request, you have
the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3) LGOIMA 1987, to apply to the Ombudsmen to
seek an investigation and review of the decision.
