I refer to your information request dated 31 December 2023 made under the Official Information Act
1982. You have requested information in relation to entry to the 2024 Bachelor of Medicine and
Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) programme via the Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) general category.
Subject to the fol owing comments, please see below our response to your request.
Al of the data we have provided is correct as at 20 February 2024, and may be subject to
change as applicants consider their offers.
1. The number of places available for MB ChB general entry via HSFY for commencing class
2024.
There is no set number of places available for entry to the 2024 MB ChB programme via the HSFY
general category. Therefore, we decline providing this information pursuant to section 18(g) of the
Act, on the basis that the information requested does not exist. The actual number of places offered
to HSFY general category applicants is cohort dependent and wil not be confirmed until the
University’s Medical School confirms final class numbers for its 2024 MB ChB programme (usual y
around the end of March).
However, as noted on the University website, places in the second year of the MB ChB programme are
first al ocated to the Alternative category. This al ocation is up to 10% of the overal places available in
the fol owing year. Remaining places in the second year of the programme are al ocated from the
HSFY and Graduate categories, with as near as possible to 70% of the places available after Alternative
category places are fil ed al ocated to the HSFY category and the balance to the Graduate category.
This information is available under the “Selection criteria” sub-heading, which is listed under the
“Application process” heading.
2. The lowest first-round offer for MB ChB general entry via HSFY for commencing class 2024.
The minimum average academic score to receive a first-round offer on 18 December 2023to the 2024
MB ChB programme via the HSFY general category was 95.43. Please note that applicants whose
results were not yet available (e.g., they were awaiting special examinations results) are excluded
from the data.
3. Number of students waitlisted for MB ChB general entry via HSFY for commencing class
2024.
There were 74 students waitlisted for entry to the 2024 MB ChB programme via the HSFY general
category.
4. The lowest top 7 paper average to be placed on the MB ChB general HSFY waitlist for
commencing class 2024.
The minimum average academic score to be placed on the waitlist for the 2024 MB ChB programme
via the HSFY general category was 90.14.
