I refer to your email to the Office of Hon Simeon Brown dated 14 December 2023, which was
transferred to the Ministry of Transport (the Ministry) on 15 December 2023 under section 14
of the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act):
“I was wondering if you can tell me the unit cost per install of the 10,000 EV chargers
that you're proposing to install as per your election campaign?
It would also be interesting to know about the frequency of the installations as 10,000
chargers in a 3 year term equates to nearly 30 per day.
Could you please indicate where these chargers are likely to be located and who's
going to operate them (and make the money). Are they going to be overseen by
ChargeNet who already operate a large network of charging stations nationwide? If
not, what are your proposals for accessing and paying for a charge as it's imperative
that charging doesn't need fragmentation in terms of multiple apps/RFID tags etc?”.
I am refusing your request under section 18(g) of the Act, no such information is held by the
Ministry, and we have no grounds to believe that the information is held by, or more closely
connected to the functions, of another department or interdepartmental venture or Minister of
the Crown or organisation or of a local authority.
Note the Ministry has not yet commenced development of detailed analysis with respect to the
delivery of a network of 10,000 EV chargers mentioned in the National Party document
‘Supercharging EV Infrastructure’, and t
he coalition agreement between the National Party
and the ACT Party.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review of this response by the Ombudsman,
in accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. The relevant details can be found on the
